Who is Dan Alia?

I like to introduce myself as a “Husband, Dad, and Son first, Always an Optimist, and then I go to work.” Generally speaking though, I am a normal guy who loves his family and loves to travel, and if I could do one thing for the rest of my life – it would be to read and teach.
I could put my resume and accomplishments up here, but who really cares? I worked for a wide variety of companies, did a bunch of different things, learned a LOT, and still have a lot to learn. If you are really interested in ym work history – visit me HERE. I am more interested in being a good husband, an engaged Dad and son, and a better friend.
Having said that, let me introduce you to the most important people in my life – my wife Angie, and my two boys, Ben and Ethan…

You will hear me talk about them a lot, so you should know who they are. Also, most of what I learn is from doing my best at being an engaged husband and dad – so chances are good you will hear stories about them and our travels and daily trials and activities.
The other people who continue to have an outsized influence and impact on my life are my parents Pat & Nancy, who have been married for 56 years…

So as you can see – I am a normal guy with a normal family, who loves learning and traveling.
And if along the way I experiences and helping others. So with that…
I love seasons.
The change and renewal that comes with a “different” season has always intrigued me. Winter is mostly the same, but under a close look, every winter is different. There is one road by my house where I know EXACTLY when spring has sprung because all the trees bloom at the exact same time, and within 5 days they flower from white to all green. It is like clockwork – and the tell tale sign of spring – and I love it.
I love the summer and warm weather, and going to the beach, boating and swimming in the pool.
But nothing beats the fall and the 1st cold day when you need to put a long sleeve shirt on. Cool nights, crisp days, green grass, and light jackets. Nothing better.
I also believe in seasons of life.
I have had many seasons in my career (sales, marketing, operations, training, teaching, my LinkedIn) and love the idea of closing one season for another. I have had happy and sad seasons – healthy and unhealthy seasons – seasons to grow, and seasons to just live every day.
One thing remains the same. I always appreciate the familiarity and subtle differences of a changing season.
This website is a new season for me.
I have always wanted my own home on the internet. Whether that is to blog and share ideas, or have a library of the many books I have read, or chronicle some of the amazing places I have been fortunate (and have worked hard) to visit. Not social media – not just a newsletter – but my own home.
So here you go!
Welcome home – and forgive me, I hope you will stay, but this site is as much for me as it is for you. Hopefully, you learn something, or maybe you buy a book I recommend, or maybe we get into a good conversation and you change my mind – ultimately, my only goal is engagement and enjoyment.
I will continue adding to this site as long as I am interested or until I have nothing to say (HIGHLY UNLIKELY).
And some day when I am gone, my hope is this will be a place to remember me by, and to look back and smile at the memories we may have shared. For I do believe in sharing experiences. In college, I was known as the guy who bought the most rounds of drinks at the bar – and typically was spouting off a familiar saying of, “it’s not money, it’s memories”.
So with that as the back drop, I invite you to stay, look around, and stay a while. Ask me whatever you want – I am an open book.
I do have 2 rules, and my hope is we will all live by these…
1. Be nice.
2. Always leave things a little better than you found them.
Talk soon,
Dan
